'St' words like 'stutter', 'statistics', 'steven', 'story', 'standard' .... etc I have issues with. If I get stuck on an 'st' word it comes out something like this "ssssssssss" take a breath "sssssssssssssssssss" and then some more "sssssssss" - just can't get the transition from 's' to 't'. I therefore often (trying not to at the moment) avoid 'st' words.

There is an electrical shop near our house which bugs, its called 'Stone & Stewart'. Two 'st' words in a row. I bank with 'Standard Bank', its amazing how many times people ask where you bank. Sometimes I pretend to have 'forgotten' where I bank or I try to force the word 'Standard' out.

Another place where this comes up is at restaurants:

Me: I would like a glass of water please

Waitress: Will that be still or sparkling water

Dam, why did she say that?

Me: sparkling please

Man, I don't like sparkling water! No one knows that I avoided a word, but I feel like I have really let myself down. Next time its going to be still water.

One of the people in the video Transcending Stutering: The Inside Story has a similar story:

You know you go to McD's and you want to order a 'cheese burger', for some reason that day you can't say 'cheese' to save the world. You order whatever is easy to say, man wow. You just like kicking yourself, you kicking yourself. Because on the outside you didn't hear me stutter, ok, so I won that whatever battle, ok, I got that one. But when I get home their is a much bigger battle and that is self respect.
