Every person has some disadvantage or disability. It could be health related, family related or something in their history. Having a stutter is frustrating but its not the worst thing that can happen to you. Often I am tempted to think, wouldn't it be great if I could swop my stutter for something else and just be able to speak fluently? However thinking like that is not going to help my speech and only ads to the frustration.

Its much better to look from a wider perspective and see some of the benefits of stuttering:

  • facing and overcoming adversity each day makes you stronger
  • people underestimate you
  • stuttering keeps you humble

Stuttering also has negatives, that in my opinion can be summarised as:

  • missed opportunities due to ineffective communication
